Animated Materiality

Building on empirical studies from Professor Richter-Lunn’s doctoral research, the installation transforms these investigations into a full-scale, responsive environment. The integration of sensing technologies and programmable materials allows the space to perceive and respond to human presence, movement, and behavior. Subtle shifts in material and motion create a dynamic relationship between body and environment.
The project serves as a prototype for imagining more malleable and responsive designed environments. It explores how emerging technologies, physical computing, and psychophysiology might expand the capacity of our built surroundings to adapt and interact with their inhabitants, opening new possibilities for more dynamic, socially engaged, and human-centered approaches to design.
